Picton native Gabe DeCastris is one of three members of the Quinte Curling Club at the Curl Ontario U-21 provincial championships in Ottawa.
Excited to extend their season after the U18 games ended, DeCastris, 16, Carson Kay and Nathan Kim, teamed up with Skip Evan Madore, of Oshawa, and competed in the U21 regional playdown in Brockville last month, where they qualified for this week’s provincials.
“I’m glad that as a (new) team we work well together,” said DeCastris. “And I’m looking forward to the opportunity to play at a higher level than we are used to.”
DeCastris is the lead, Kay is second and Kim third on the Madore rink. The top two rinks from the Ottawa event will move on to the U21 National Championship at the end of March in Rouyn-Noranda Quebec.
DeCastris attends Prince Edward Collegiate in Picton. The team is coached by Kim Wilson of the Quinte Curling Club.
