Winning Pirates play in triple header for Bulls’ anniversary celebration

After a ho-hum first period in which they gave up a goal, the Picton Pirates used some veteran savvy and wound up beating the Port Hope Panthers 4-1 Thursday evening.
It was the club’s second exhibition win of the preseason.
“We definitely looked scrambly in the first period, but it was great to see our veterans step and perform like we expect them to,” Picton Pirates GM Jason Parks said.
Down 1-0 after 20 minutes, Eric Hayes finally got the locals on the board in the second with a powerplay marker at the 11:02 mark.
Jack Davison and Braeden Walsh assisted.
Still tied at 1-1 in the third, rookie Dave Norris used a baseball swing at 18:49 of the third to send an airborne puck into the Port Hope cage.
The “Home Run” Goal stood up as the winner as veterans Kyle Beatty and Ryan Sizer added insurance markers.
Haydn McInroy was the winning netminder, stopping several prime Port Hope chances in the second and third period.
Picton’s next action will be Sunday at the Belleville Bulls Junior Hockey Festival at the Yardmen arena.
The Bucs hook up with rival Napanee at 10:45 am, part of a triple header of hockey that includes and OHL and a Junior A exhibtion game. Cost is $10

A special triple header of games is planned, with the Pirates playing the Napanee Raiders, the Bulls playing the Oshawa Generals and the Wellington Dukes playing the Trenton Golden Hawks – all in one day under one roof (Yardman Arena).
“The Pirates are simply elated to be taking part in this celebration of Junior Hockey in the Quinte Area,” said Pirates GM Jason Parks. “When Bulls’ owner Gord Simmonds approached me about the possibility of being involved, I couldn’t say yes fast enough.
“This will bring some very good exposure to our league and our team and I know all of the returning Pirates from last season have already requested to be dressed for that exhibition game and take part in this very special opportunity.”
