Supporters of the recent Rock for a Reason Benefit Concert, hosted by The Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital (PECMH) Foundation, raised $26,000 toward a new mammography machine for the County’s hospital.

More than 300 attendees came together for an energetic and inspiring evening featuring performances by The Reasons, County X Roads, The Boujees, Rock Cut, and special performances by PECMH physicians—a highlight of the night at Picton’s Crystal Palace on April 25.

The evening was grounded by a powerful and deeply moving testimonial from breast cancer survivor Crystal Whalen, who spoke to the life-saving importance of early detection and access to mammography.

“I’m here as someone who had the misfortune of cancer, and the extraordinary luck of access, knowledge and an incredible community,” shared Whalen. “Because of nights like this, more people will have that same chance.”

“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who came out to support this event,” said Shannon Coull, executive director of the PECMH Foundation. “It was an evening filled with music, community, and purpose, and a powerful reminder of what can be accomplished together when we rally around local healthcare.”

To date, the Foundation has raised nearly 70 per cent of its $1 million goal for mammography equipment, which is included in the $30 million Back the Build campaign goal.

Dr. Sarah Le Blanc, speaking on behalf of the physicians who performed, added, “It was such a meaningful experience to be part of this event, not just as healthcare providers, but as members of this community. Seeing everyone come together to support access to early detection is truly inspiring.”

The foundation extends sincere thanks to its dedicated committee, including Peter Rea, Karen and Gerry Mayer, Dr. Sarah Le Blanc and Moira Coull and the many volunteers whose efforts helped make the evening a success.

“We are also grateful for Bay of Quinte Mutual Insurance Co. for being our event sponsor, and Otter Energy for sponsoring the “Ark Luxe Studio” photo booth.”
