Road re-opened following gas leak

UPDATE: The gas leak has been controlled and the area deemed safe. At 4:30pm, OPP re-opened Main St., Wellington for motorists and residents.
Several homes were evacuated and Main Street/Loyalist Parkway (east of Belleville Street) was closed due to a gas leak.
Just after 10 a.m. Wednesday, a crew working at the new Tim Hortons location hit a gas line. Prince Edward County OPP detachment was contacted by the Prince Edward County Fire department.
OPP have closed Main St., Wellington/Loyalist Parkway between Belleville St. and Conley Road. A detour is in place at these locations. Motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible. The road closure is expected to be in place for an extended period of time.
