Picton Man places fourth in County Marathon

More than 1400 runners were on the starting lines Sunday, for the 7th Annual County Marathon Boston Marathon qualifier. Picton’s Tim Johnson was the top local runner, placing fourth overall in 2:57.45.8.

About 500 dedicated volunteers offered water and assistance at various locations throughout the route from Wellington, through Bloomfield, through West Lake to the Sandbanks, along East Lake Road to County Road 10 and through Picton to the fairgrounds.  County residents along the route cheered, rang bells and offered loud applause and encouragement.

The winner was Rory Gilfillan, of Lakefield, who ran 2:38:52.9. Second place was Kiptoo Gilbert of Eldoret in 2:40:27.4 and third place finisher Philip Kipchumba, of Kenya ended at 2:45:49.8. Top female was Katrina Cripps, of Richmond Hill, who was clocked in 3:07.40. Susan Stephenson-Baker, of Wellington, was the first County female over the line in 4:09:36.2.
