Roundabout 30 days away to approval to begin construction in spring 2027

The long-awaited roundabout at Highway 62 and County Road 1 (Schoharie) is a 30-day comment period away from being considered ready to proceed to construction.

The $7-8 million construction (not including the cost of acquiring land from some of the adjoining private property owners) is estimated to begin in the spring of 2027 and take about 120 day to complete.

The Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has completed a detail design and Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) study.

MTO’s consultant, Stantec Consulting Ltd., has prepared a design and construction report (DCR) to summarize the refined recommended plan, construction staging, and environmental impacts and protection and mitigation measures.

The DCR is available for a 30-day public comment period to Oct. 26. The DCR can be accessed at the project website at hwy62pec1.ca or can be reviewed in person at the Picton library (208 Picton Main St.) and the Bloomfield library (300 Bloomfield Main St.).

Upon completion of the DCR review period, the project will be considered to have met the requirements of the Class EA and will proceed to construction. Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2027 subject to approvals.
