For the second, consecutive year, County taxpayers should expect a delay in the receipt of their 2016 Final Tax Notices and as a result, the due date for the property tax installment regularly scheduled for March 15, 2016 will be extended.
The distribution of 2016 Final Tax Notices has been delayed as the Province of Ontario (Ministry of Finance) has not yet released the 2016 Education Tax Rates. Education Tax Rates are required to calculate the education portion of the 2016 annual taxes. As the County has not yet received these rates, the 2016 Final Tax Notices were not able to be generated with enough notice to have a March 15 due date.
The Ministry of Finance has not advised when The County can expect to receive Education Tax Rates for 2016.
Taxpayers who wish to make an estimated payment for their March installment are welcome to do so. The delay in distributing the 2016 Final Tax Notice will not impact property owners enrolled in the monthly pre-authorized payment plan and their regular monthly withdrawal will continue as scheduled.
“We understand this unexpected change in deadlines may be frustrating for the taxpayer, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” said Amanda Carter, Director of Finance. “We would like to assure taxpayers that we will be providing adequate notice of the revised due dates.”
Once the 2016 Education Tax Rates are released, the 2016 Final Tax Notices will be generated and mailed as quickly as possible, with a due date of at least 21 days from the date of mailing.

Apparently the only process that Shire Hall is competent in doing is ensuring that they get pay increases every year based on the outstanding job they are doing……. It’s gonna be a long 4 years.

i guess we are paying for dopey mistakes shire hall makes
example…..hiring an outside temp agency..therefore having to shell out an extra 325,000 above and beyond the going rates(previous full time managers salary plus 325,000)
im still happy to have a delay in paying though 🙂
Yes I did notice and I thought of all the massive infrastructure they are undertaking to improve the municipality.
Has anyone noticed that the City of Belleville brought in a tax increase of less than 1% for their city residents and in their rural areas there is a tax REDUCTION for home owners. Here in PEC we get another 4.5% increase just like last year – and we get excited over our tax bills being delayed. Yippee!
