Three face additional charges in Picton death

Prince Edward County OPP have laid additional charges in connection with a death in Picton earlier this year.

On July 2, shortly before 5 a.m., officers responded to a report of a sudden death at a home on Mary Street in Picton. Leanne Champion, 47, pronounced deceased. A post mortem examination and testing at Ontario Forensic Pathology Services has determined the cause of death to be fentanyl toxicity.

As a result of the ongoing investigation additional charges have been laid against three individuals.

Two Belleville residents, aged 40 and 31, face charges of manslaughter, Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence, Possession of Proceeds Obtained by Crime Under $5000, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking in a Schedule 1 Substance: Fentanyl and Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking in a Schedule 1 Substance: Methamphetamine.

They have been remanded in custody until an appearance before the Ontario Court of Justice in Napanee this week.

A 36-year-old Quinte West resident has been charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking in a Schedule 1 Substance: Fentanyl, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking in a Schedule 1 Substance: Cocaine, and Possession of Proceeds Obtained by Crime Under $5000. This accused was released to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton this week.

The investigation continues with members of the Prince Edward County OPP Crime Unit, OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), and East Region Forensic Identification Services (FIS) Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).
