Three-year-old drowns at Sandbanks

Prince Edward OPP are investigating a drowning incident involving a three-year-old child in Prince Edward County.
On Thursday July 24, at approximately 5:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to Sandbanks Provincial Park after a child went missing while playing with family members in a shallow area of water.
The child was located and recovered by bystanders prior to the arrival of emergency services and subsequently transported to hospital by EMS. Despite resuscitation efforts, the child was pronounced deceased.
The identity of the victim is not being released out of respect for the family’s privacy.
Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue, Hastings-Quinte EMS, and Sandbanks Provincial Park Wardens supported the Prince Edward County OPP in response to the incident. The OPP thank members of the public who provided assistance.

The drowning is the third in the past week – which is National Drowning Prevention Week.
