Princess Ella’s wish comes true

Ella-wish-dayPrince Edward County family and friends were thrilled to see young Ella Mulder’s wish come true.

The five-year-old has been battling kidney cancer that spread to her stomach and lungs since since last summer. This summer, thanks to Make-A-Wish Eastern Ontario, she hopes to celebrate being in remission by having fun in the sun with her family.

Ella-princessElla’s wish, delivered on Tuesday, and included a camper trailer for her family to spend time in the sun at Quinte’s Isle Campark. The camper was donated by Carl Cox RV and was especially decorated in a princess theme. It was enhanced with bikes, toys and games for the family to enjoy, thanks to  Andy Babiak of Sign Solutions, and Canadian Tire Belleville.

She also wished to be a princess and Alice Fleming stepped up with the creation of the perfect princess dress.

“Fleming designs costumes for stage productions, said Sarah Hopper, wish grantor, along with Lisa Shunock. “We knew that Ella loved the newer Disney princesses, so her dress was modelled after one of those. The dress needed to be short enough for Ella to be able to ride her new bike, and needed to include a headband for a princess. The camper was also designed (by the creative team at Sign Solutions) with a princess theme in mind.”

“We smile just thinking of Ella enjoying the summer with her new camper and bike,” says Sarah Hopper, wish grantor, along with Lisa Shunock. The two met Ella, and her parents Kelly and Wes Mulder, as part of the role as wish granters.

“It’s almost like being fairy godmothers,” said Hopper. “We work with the family to learn about a child’s wishes and then all we can to make them come true. The community support was great.”

Ella finished her chemotherapy treatments at the end of 2013 and is continuing with her check ups. The family now lives in Napanee.

Children facing life-threatening illnesses are referred to Make A Wish by a physician. Make-A-fWish Eastern Ontario grants wishes “to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy”.
