Zombie faithful bring out their undead

The County’s undead shambled through downtown Picton Monday night in a fifth annual celebration of zombies. Participants met at the Picton Town Hall for a dinner with the Food Not Bombs group then shared makeup and outfit ideas.
Erin Johnston picked up the bones of the Zombie Walk event originally started in the community by Christine Renaud when she was at the Picton Library.
“It’s become a fun family event for my children and a tradition of fall events in October along with the Scarecrow Festival, Thanksgiving and Halloween,” said Johnston. “It isn’t a coincidence that zombies have become a component to pop culture when things like technology, science, economics, population surge and politics are making our humanity feel so precarious.”
“Amongst the moans of the undead laughter, smiles and a fun feeling are felt throughout the crowd of walkers. It gives us all a chance to unplug, be silly and get messy,” she adds.
Renaud hopes to work with the group again next year, inviting the public to learn the dance to Michael Jackson’s Thriller, and performing it together downtown.
