Need more citizens to stand for election

The municipal election is fast approaching, with the deadline for nominations just two weeks away, on September 10.  At the present time, there are too few new candidates to ensure that electors are offered sufficient alternatives to the current policies and practices of Council.
Fourteen of the current 15 councillors are running again – four for mayor and eleven for councillor.  Although 12 other County residents have also filed papers, there may be acclamations in four of the 10 County wards.
Here are the wards where there is currently no contest, showing the currently nominated candidate(s):
·         Bloomfield (1 Councillor) – Barry Turpin (acclaimed in 2006).
·         Hallowell (2) —  Keith MacDonald, Richard Parks.
·         Hillier (1) – Peggy Burris.
·         South Marysburgh (1) – Bernie Gaw.
The County needs more civic-minded citizens to stand for election, especially in these four wards.  If you agree, please talk to your neighbours and consider who among you might run.
