Who knows about Nicholson Island?

Just wondering if you know anything about Nicholson Island just off of Hyucks Point Road. (I think is the closest road to it) I can’t seem to find any info about it or its private hunting club. It’s rumoured to have a hovercraft to bring cars back and forth. It’s also rumoured to have had Bob Hope come there and go hunting. Another rumour is that the island was used by rum runners. Any info you know of would help. Thanks.

yes a lot of rumours and as said not all true.. yes it does have a small air strip for single engin plains choper’s .. there are two amphibious vehicles one for passengers and other for tractor trailers or other vehicles witch is used for bringing pheasants on the island .. i did work there for a few years loved every min of it !!! i have lots of pic and stories !
I was fortunate to spend three seasons working there in the late 70’s. First year as housekeeper, subsequent years as a dog handler. Yes. I did get shot. Gamekeepers at the time were Bill and Barb Roberts. I have lots of interesting pictures and information.
A lot of rumours, but not necessarily all true. The island is owned privately by a hunting club as I understand it, and there is even a grassed runway in the middle of the island. Bing Crosby did visit the island once as a guest, but other notables could have also. Pheasants are the primary game bird there, mostly on a put and take basis. The vehicle of transportation is The Duck, an amphibious vehicle with both drive wheels and a propeller, large enough to take a service vehicle over. The house and lodge are powered by diesel generators. It is a very private place and I was lucky enough to get permission to go over and spend two days while conducting some bird surveys. And Huyck’s Point Road is the nearest road.
